Google search plays an important role in our daily life, Graphics Design, Digital marketing or freelancing career. Many of us say that when searching for any information, “Google it”, you will get the information. That is, Google has become a synonym for finding information online. We depend on other search engines like Google for any information and data. However, we all trust Google more than Yahoo or Bing.
Even at the beginning
of my freelancing career, I had to spend a lot of time searching for
information on Google. The techniques for finding information have been
useful for many years and will be useful for the rest of my life. Not only for
freelancing, if you know the techniques, you can do many things in your
personal and professional life faster without the help of anyone else.
From
this article, we will learn about the following techniques:
•
Searching for phrases or sentences
•
Searching for a desired website
•
Searching for a website title or text
•
Searching for similar sites
•
Searching for any book
•
Searching for information related to images
• Synonyms
1. Phrase or sentence search:
If we want to get a website very quickly, then we have to write any sentence or phrase related to that site with inverted commas. At the beginning of our work, we search for something out of curiosity, such as: “best graphics design sites”. If we write this and search, it will show how many websites have this phrase on the first page. Look at the image below:
2.
Search for the desired website:
We constantly have to go to different sites to get design inspiration, or digital marketing tools or for any kind of information. Among them, the most favorite site of many designers is Graphic River. It is also a resellable marketplace. So if you want to get ideas about flyers or want to see flyers, then you have to write in the Google search bar: flyer:graphicriver . Then Google will show you all the flyer related results of that particular site. Look at the image below:
Again, if you want to see Graphic River's branding-related designs, you need to type in the search bar: Branding:graphicriver.net
or Branding site:graphicriver.net
3.
Search by title or text of a website:
If you search using this technique, the searched
term will return results from the title of the website or the text included in
the site. For example: intitle: graphic design. Look at the image below:
Again, if you type: intex:graphic design , then the
results will show only websites that contain the word graphic design. Look at
the image below:
4.
Search for similar sites:
We often have to collect data from similar sites. For example, if we want to research on which market we will work in, then we can search for such sites. For example, if we search by typing -related:graphicriver.net, we will see search results like the image below:
Again, if we type: related:behance.net, Google will display search results like the image below:
Or if we type related:upwork, Google will provide the following information:
5.
Search for any book:
There is no alternative to studying and looking at
designs to increase our design skills. So we have to continue studying design constantly. You may continue searching for any books to explore your
knowledge in any niche.
So if necessary, we can download beautiful books in
PDF format from Google. For example:
If you search by typing Graphic design filetype:pdf, the results will show as below:
6.
Image-related information search:
This feature is very useful for designers. Because
with it, in addition to searching for information on Google, you can also
search for information related to images, videos, and maps. The search bar
option on Google looks a lot like the image below:
Here you have to
click on the camera shutter icon on the right side of the search bar. Now you
can paste the link of the image or click on the 'Upload an Image' button and
upload the image from your computer and you can search for your desired image.
I learned another
use of it while working. For example, we often create logos, but they can often
be similar to someone else's logo. So we can see if there is another logo on
Google like the one I made. I took one of my logos from Google and uploaded it
to Google's image search box. Google is showing me all such logos. Look at the
image below:
That is, other logos like the text logo with
the letter A are also showing in the results.

Synonyms:
Knowing English is very
important for working in different marketplaces or in your professional live.
However, while working in an active market, if we do not understand something
after reading the client's job description before bidding, we can search for
its synonyms on Google. For example, in a job description, it is written, The
design should be 'Aesthetic'. Here you do not understand the meaning of
aesthetic. Then you type in Google, ~aesthetic. That is, if you put the ~
(Tilde) symbol before the main word and search, the following results will be
shown:
Adjective- Concerned
with beauty or the appreciation of beauty
Again,
Results will also
appear as nouns, such as:
A set of principles
underlying the work of a particular artist or artistic movement.
Now you can easily understand the meaning of
that difficult word by reading these lines in English.
